Playing VHS-NTSC Tapes on PAL Systems

The problem There are many different broadcast TV and Video systems in use throughout the world with many incompatibilities. For a succinct explanation of why; look at Worldwide TV Standards - A Web Guide produced by Bevis King.
Meanwhile a solution for PAL users

You need a VCR that will play NTSC tapes. (Stating the obvious eh!). If you have an on-screen menu system on your VCR you may find that it contains an option called NTSC on PAL TV. If you have - you're cool! If not - you need a new VCR ensuring that NTSC playback is listed among its features in the specification.

You need a TV that is compatible with PAL60 (525 lines) signals (the normal being 50 fields of 625 lines). Fairly new TV's seem to be OK in this respect. Old ones will roll, and you will need to fiddle about a lot with the vertical-hold knob. All I can suggest is try it and see. If playback is unsatisfactory you'll need a new TV - one that is either PAL60 or a Multi-System one that is NTSC 4.43 compatible.

Be prepared to lose some functions like picture search, still and slow playback which may be skewed and noisy. Remember these notes are for playback only and not for recording.

Good viewing And so - if you do all this just to watch Dedee Pfeiffer; you're a hero of the first order and deserve an ale.
